Adam Lambert’s bold and shockingly provocative stint at the American Music Awards has made him the talk of the town!
Once upon a time, there was a sweet, good looking kid by the name of Adam Lambert who finished as the runner up in the eighth season of American Idol back in May 2009. He went on to release his solo debut album soon afterward titled For Your Entertainment on November 23 this year.
Since his participation in American Idol, Adam has won two different awards: the Young Hollywood Award for Artist of the Year and the Teen Choice Award for Reality/Variety Star.
Things have indeed been looking up for the 27 year old until the backlash that he received for his highly controversial performance at the American Music Awards 2009 last week in LA, California. While performing For Your Entertainment that night, Lambert was seen kissing his male keyboardist, grinding a dancer’s head against his pelvis simulating oral sex, and grabbing the crotch of another.
The word ‘shock’ would be an understatement for the sentiments that floated from all across the United States as well as from around the globe on these acts. The performance in question being Adam’s most prominent on since the American Idol is likely to have a permanent effect on the psyche of people across America.
The sensual and provocative performance might as well dent the figues from his album that was released recently especially when the major backlash has come from the parents across the country with the Parents Television Council (PTC) denouncing the show as “vulgar” and ”enough to alarm any reasonable parent”.
In his defense, Adam has put the blame on the media’s double standards and openly stated that ge might not be the cup f tea for those who were not entertained by his performance at the awards.
Female performers have been doing this for years — pushing the envelope about sexuality — and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. We’re in 2009 — it’s time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people’s eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I’m not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom.

The question thus arises now that what is considered as acceptable in name of entertainment from this point onwards. Even if the age old debate of straight versus gay us kept aside, the sheer fact that a massive chunk of Adam’s viewership is within the age group of 8 – 18 years old, he seems to have completely forgotten the responsibility he carries on his shoulders.
Whether he aiming to be change his image drastically or did he over-do on his promise to the ABC network to deliver a sexy performance, he has definitely ended up leaving a lot of people simply disgusted.
