Unveiled: The Dell Mini 5

Make no mistake: when 2010 is over, the  market is going to be flooded with tablet options. I’m not sure this is necessarily a good thing for companies, but for consumers, the price war is sure to be in our favor.

Dell has unveiled a 5-inch Android-powered tablet PC called Slate (for now). The device comes with a SIM slot so you can hook up to 3G service for Internet connectivity, it has a 5-megapixel camera and It’s believed that Dell is prepping similar devices with different screen sizes and form factors.

Interestingly, the Dell Mini 5 will be available in several colors including pink, black and red. That would make it the first high-end Android smartphone to be offered in more than just the usual few mainstream colors.

Dell Mini 5 will also boast a multi-touch display, though the demo units were only running Android 1.6. There’s obviously hope that Dell will offer some software that takes advantage of multi-touch, but it remains to be seen whether that will actually happen.
